Every time I get to help someone preserve an old barn it reminds me of my youth.
In the hay mow we would stack bales during the hot, stuffy summer so the cows and horses could eat during the cold winter days. Sometimes we would stack bales around to create fun little tunnels for hide-and-seek when the cousins visited.
It’s where I would hide my little forbidden radio and listen to songs that my strict Amish parents frowned upon. The barn was where we would find a brand new set of kittens… or where we would find a baby colt…
The barn was the life of the farm that I grew up on and it is a great honor any time we get to preserve someone else’s barn with its own stories and history.
This will be a barn which will stay around as a symbol of American life as it once was when things were much simpler and a tribute to those who make a life on the farm.
